The Best Live Flowering Plants For Valentines Day Gifts
Valentine's Day is a time to show love and appreciation to those closest to us: life partners and sweethearts... mothers, siblings and special friends and co-workers.

A dozen roses is the usual go-to offering for Valentine's Day. But you have other options. There's nothing wrong with giving cut flowers. A dozen fresh cut roses in a decorative vase with fillers and trailers make a fantastic arrangement. But if you gave cut roses last Valentine's Day (and every one before that), it might be time to excite your loved one(s) with something new?

Potted plants are beautiful, less pricey, and say "I love you" a lot longer. Fortunately, we at Wilson Bros Gardens are always working hard to offer interesting live plants that produce beautiful flowers and decorative foliage that will be enjoyed for decades or even a lifetime by your special recipient.

Here's 6 hardy and beautiful types of flowering plants that will make the perfect gift for your Valentine...

Camellias

Queens of the fall and winter flowers, Camellias are beautiful evergreen flowering shrubs adored for their exquisite blooms that come in fall, winter and/or spring, when color is needed in the garden. Camellias come in a wide array of bright colors and forms ranging from single to fully double and peony form. Though typically thought of as southern plants, thanks to the hard work of a few professional breeders, we now have a large selection of cold hardy camellia varieties that can be safely grown as far north as USDA Zone 6! We also carry a selection of fragrant camellias that are fine additions to the sensory garden.

Edgeworthia

One of the all-time favorite plants in our own gardens, Edgeworthia, also called Paper Bush, is a truly a multi-season color and fragrance factory. In January, white flower buds begin opening to wonderfully fragrant, golden-yellow, honeysuckle like flowers densely packed in round clusters that continue into spring. We've yet to meet anyone who didn't like the wonderful perfume the flowers emit.

Tea Olive

Producing an abundance of some of the most wonderfully fragrant flowers in existence, Fragrant Tea Olives, also called Sweet Olives, are attractive large evergreen shrubs or small trees that flower for up to 6 months out of the year, depending on the variety. The flowers are tiny but boy do they pack a fragrant punch! All it takes is one Fragrant Tea Olive to fill your front or backyard with a heavenly scent of sweet perfume.

Azaleas

Known as “The Royalty of the Garden,” azaleas have long been adored for their brightly colored flowers and outstanding form and foliage. We offer over 100 varieties of evergreen and deciduous azaleas in a wide array of bright flower colors including ones that are cold and/or heat tolerant and sun and/or shade tolerant. Though typically thought of as southern plants that only bloom in spirng, thanks to the hard work of a few professional breeders, we now have a large selection of reblooming azaleas that bloom in spring, summer, and fall, and cold hardy azaleas that can be safely grown as far north as USDA Zone 5!

Roses

If you must get your special Valentine roses, we offer the most floriferous, lowest maintenance, easy-care selections that anyone can grow. You'll find dwarf roses, groundcover roses, hedge roses and even a few climbing roses.

Hydrangeas

With immense flower heads, Hydrangeas flaunt an old-fashioned charm that is hard to resist. Unrivaled in the shrub world for beautiful flowers, these elegant ladies are easy to grow and produce abundant blooms. Flower colors enchant ranging from clear blue, vibrant pink, frosty white, lavender and purple, and red and rose color blossoms - sometimes all colors on the same plant!
